Karnataka’s Mysore is filled with colours right before the Dasara festival with the beautiful flower show that was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Two major events have been scheduled for 2024 Dussehra, fruit and flower show at Kuppanna park and near Lingambudhi lake. The flower show started from October 3 and will go on till October 13 at the Lingambudhi botanical garden. You can visit the garden between 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. everyday. The ticket prices vary according to age, Rs 30 for children aged 6 to 12 years, Rs 60 for adults, Rs 50 for still cameras and Rs 100 for video cameras.
The Lingambudhi botanical garden event that recently started has received an overwhelming response and it is expected to become a significant location that attracts visitors. It has been newly constructed and this is the first time that the flower show will be held there. According to information, the garden spans across 15 acres and displays several varieties of plant species. It focuses on preserving native flora surrounding the lake’s edge.
Several varieties of native trees can be seen in the garden like the Neem, Banyan, Peepal, Albizia, Large- flowered Magnolia and Krishna Siris. Moreover, it also has Black Varnish Tree, Karen Wood, Marking Nut Tree, Hiptage, Weeping Bottlebrush, Red Bottlebrush, Orange Trumpet Vine etc.
Other than these, endangered species like red sandalwood, Albizia, Bael and Bilva are preserved in the garden. Not just that, some of the exotic species have also been grown in the garden like Agathis, Robusta, Schizolobium, Parahyba, Brachychiton, and Adansonia. Furthermore, a variety of flowers can be seen such as Marigold, Zinnia, Cockscomb, Celosia, Poinsettia, Calla Lily, Begonia, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Helichrysum, Torenia, Salvia, Cosmos, Petunia, Impatiens, Kalanchoe, Hibiscus, Anthuriums, Coleus, Spider Plant, Antirrhinum, Dianthus, and Aster. Such a view is surely an eye candy.
Several themed gardens will be created such as Medicinal Plants Garden, Aromatic Garden, Rose Garden, Topiary Garden (highlighting plants shaped into intricate forms). A Butterfly Park, Bamboo Block, Rockery, Arboretum, Fragrance Block, Palmetum, Minor Fruits Block will also be developed. The Water pools and an Aqua Birds Park are upcoming attractions that are being created.
Let us tell you that the lake was developed in 1828 during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in memory of Maharani Krishnavilasa Lingajammanni. Finally, the garden is expected that it can be comparable to the Lalbagh botanical garden located in Bengaluru as well as the Ooty botanical garden.
