The National Testing Agency NTA has made a major change in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2025 question paper pattern. As per the agency, the JEE Main 2025 upcoming question paper will discontinue the optional questions. The 15 optional questions were introduced in 2021 to help students with the challenges occurred by the Covid-19 pandemic. The trend continued for the last 3 years.  However, now the student will have to answer all the questions in the paper that is a total of 75 questions all compulsory. This is a big blow to the students who are preparing for the JEE exam 2025.

Students who wrote the exam in 2021, 22 and 23 had question papers consisting of 90 questions in which, in section A, physics, chemistry and mathematics had 20 questions each. And in section B they used to be 10 questions from all the three subjects, but students had to attempt 5 questions each from the three subjects in Section B. But now on, the old JEE pattern will be followed which means that physics, chemistry and mathematics will have 25 questions each, all compulsory. The optional questions were a big relief for the candidates.

Let us tell you that this change in question paper pattern is applicable to both Engineering (BE/BTech, paper 1) and Architecture and Planning (BArch/BPlanning, paper 2) tests as notified by NTA. Here’s the notification.

“Since the declaration of UN World Health Organization (WHO) on the COVID-19 as an end of Public health emergency on 05 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning),”

Every year, the JEE mains exam is held twice and similarly in 2025, the exam will take place twice.  Furthermore, in a recent notification, the NTA said that the registration process will begin in due course of time.
