The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) hosted its first-ever ‘Pan-IIT Student Governance’ summit on October 26 and 27, 2024. The event aimed to empower IIT student representatives with essential knowledge and resources, inspiring impactful changes within their respective institutions and the larger IIT community.
This event gathered student representatives from various IITs to discuss and address the evolving landscape of higher education and the challenges students face today. Participants engaged in collaborative sessions to develop actionable initiatives designed to enhance the overall student experience across IITs. Networking opportunities were a key component of the event, fostering connections among students, faculty, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Conducts Lectures by Experts
Held over two days on the IIT Madras campus, the summit featured a series of lectures by experts on vital topics. Sessions focused on ‘Sustainable Campus Policies and Student Practices,’ ‘Academic Standards and Policies,’ ‘Research Affairs and Ecosystem Policies,’ and ‘Student Mental Health and Holistic Wellbeing.’ Additionally, discussions explored critical issues such as ‘UG Placement and Internship Management Policies,’ ‘Research Infrastructure and Career Development,’ and strategies for cultural and tech festivals.
Atharv Joshi, Student Convenor of the summit and Speaker of the Student Legislative Council at IIT Madras, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: “As the Convenor of this esteemed event, I am thrilled to witness vibrant student leaders from across IITs unite for a transformative experience. This summit was a unique platform to foster collaboration, share ideas, and shape the future of student governance across our institutions.”
