Kannada Actor Darshan Granted Interim Bail in Murder Case, Court Imposes Seven Strict Conditions

Famous Kannada Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been granted interim bail for six weeks by the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday. He is currently in prison in connection with his alleged involvement in the murder of 33-year-old man Renukaswamy, who was a fan of the actor. Actor Darshan was arrested for allegedly torturing and murdering him for allegedly sending obscene messages to his friend and actor Pavithra Gowda. The 47-year-old actor had sought bail through an application due to medical reasons, he said that he was experiencing numbness in both feet and needed to undergo surgery followed by which Single-judge Justice S Vishwajith Shetty allowed the interim bail.

Bail request opposed by the prosecutor

The judge, on Tuesday conducted a hearing of detailed arguments from the actor’s legal representative, senior advocate CV Nagesh, as well as state public prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar. The interim bail request was opposed by the prosecutor, who said that the medical documents did not specify how many days Darshan would need to be hospitalised. Moreover, Kumar also argued that the surgery can be performed at a government hospital and there was no need to go out.

Finally, after hearing from both sides, the decision was put on the tables to grant interim bail for six weeks. The medical reports were presented in a sealed cover from doctors at Ballari Central Prison, where Darshan Thoogudeepa is being kept. These reports are anticipated to play a crucial role in determining the actor’s eligibility for interim bail on health grounds.

Seven strict conditions

The court has however laid out seven strict conditions along with the bail. This is to prevent him from going abroad, or witness tampering. He has been ordered to surrender his passport, post a bond of Rs 2 lakh rupees, and provide surety from two individuals. Additionally, he must submit a medical recommendation report within a week. The court also instructed Darshan to avoid any contact with witnesses.
