The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has introduced a shocking rule regarding the 2024 IIT JEE Advanced. It has been revealed that candidates will have the opportunity to attempt JEE Advance for three times over three consecutive years. Let us tell you that till last year, candidates were allowed two attempts only. This highly competitive exam, essential for admission into IITs, will be open to candidates who rank within the top 2.5 lakh in JEE Main 2025. The dates for JEE Main exams have been released and will be held between 22 January to 31 January 2025.
More Attempts for JEE Advanced 2025
In the year 2025, candidates will have the opportunity to attempt JEE Advanced up to three times. This modification, introduced by IIT Kanpur, is a very big opportunity for aspiring IIT students, providing them with an additional chance to achieve their dream of joining an IIT. The updated guidelines also specify that candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000, to qualify, though SC, ST, and PwD candidates have a five-year relaxation.
Key Eligibility Requirements for JEE Advanced 2025
To be able to write JEE Advanced 2025 exam, candidates will have to meet these requirements
- Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 in the JEE Main 2025 BE/BTech Paper 1 to qualify. This number may slightly increase due to tied scores.
- IIT Kanpur maintains strict adherence to reservation policies, with category-wise seat distribution as follows: 10% for General-EWS candidates, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 40.5% for the open category. Moreover, each category has a 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates, ensuring an inclusive admission process.
- Candidates holding OCI/PIO status before March 4, 2021, are considered Indian nationals for seat allocation but are not eligible for reservation benefits except under the OPEN-PwD category.
- Applicants should have completed their class 12 or equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as necessary subjects. Candidates who appeared before 2022 are generally ineligible, but if their board results were declared after-September 21, 2022, then they will be eligible.
- Candidates already admitted to any IIT program (per the JoSAA 2024 guidelines or earlier) are not eligible. However, students enrolled in preparatory courses in 2024 or those who declined a seat are still eligible.
