Mahindra is getting ready to launch its fastest SUV the Mahindra BE.05 of the Born electric range that is solely focused on electric vehicles. Mahindra BE.05 can go from 0-100 km/h in just 5-6 seconds. The electric vehicle was unveiled in August 2023 along with four other new electric SUV concepts which are a part of the Mahindra’s electric vehicle expansion plan. During the unveiling, we saw the BE.05 having a unique design which comes from Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which incorporates advanced technology and design. Recently, a pre-production prototype of the electric SUV was spotted on the road for the very first time which gave us a glimpse into its final form.
However, there are a few notable differences in the design of the prototype compared to the concept design that was revealed in 2023. Although, the LED light signature in the front is similar, the wheel arches have slightly been toned down as compared to the concept design. Moreover, we had seen futuristic rear view cameras in the concept design which have been replaced with conventional ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors). Conclusion is that, only a few element designs have been changed and most of the concept design has retained.
Mahindra BE.05 battery and drivetrain
The BE.05 will have multiple battery options that will range between 60 kWh to 80 kWh, where the 60 kWh battery will offer a range of over 400 km while the 82 kWh battery will offer a range of 586 km. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle will come with 175 kW fast charging which will make it go from 0 to 80% in just around 30 minutes. Mahindra is planning to offer the electric SUV in single-motor as well as dual-motor configuration. The single motor produces an output of 228 to 282 bhp whereas the dual motor well produces 335 to 389 bhp.
Mahindra BE.05 features
Talking about the mechanical features, the SUV will have some advanced ones like the semi-active suspension that enhances the ride quality, front trunk and rear trunk storage that increases practicality, brake-by-wire technology that is the best for precision and responsiveness, driver mode options to optimise the driving experience and also ADAS (Advanced driver assistance system) with level 2+ autonomous capabilities that will act as a main feature for safety and drive assistance. Furthermore, two drivetrain variants have been made available in both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel-Drive (AWD). The AWD variant offers 0-100 km/h sprint in 5 seconds whereas the RWD offers 0-100 km/h speed in 6 seconds also the Base RWD version gives 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
Just like the exterior, the interior is also futuristic, packed with features like a large touchscreen infotainment system in the middle along with a digital instrument gauge cluster for vital vehicle stats. Inside the car, there’s a Head-Up Display (HUD) for giving it important information directly in the driver’s line of sight. And also Connected technology with high-tech safety features.
Launch and Price of Mahindra BE.05
As far as the launch is concerned, it has still not been announced officially but it is expected that BE.05 will be launched around November 2024 aunty deliveries are expected to begin in the beginning of 2025. The electric SUV is expected to be priced at around Rs 20-25 lakh which will place it within the premium electric SUV market in India. It will compete with Domestic rivals such as Tata Harrier EV, Maruti Suzuki eVX, and Hyundai Creta EV.
