Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, one of the most anticipated Japanese-Indian anime films was scheduled to re-release in the theaters on October 18 2024, right after the Dussehra festival on 12 October. However, the film has now been postponed for the release which has been confirmed by its distributors Geek Pictures India, AA Films and Excel Entertainment. The distributors took on Instagram and posted an official letter which states that the decision has been taken to reach a wider audience across India. As of now the new release date has not been announced and will be announced soon.

The company said that due to overwhelming enthusiasm from fans they had to decide to postpone the release date which will give them enough time to make the film available in more theatres. The iconic masterpiece will be released in 4K format and will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu along with the original English version. Let us tell you that the film did not have the theatrical release when it came out in 1993. Instead it debuted at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and was on television, the film’s television re-runs helped it again a cult following in India.

The film was produced in Japan, directed by Yugo Sako along with Indian filmmaker Ram Mohan and Koichi Sasaki. According to the distributor of the film, Geek pictures India, the film Ramayana The legend of Prince Rama is not just a film but a celebration of relationships the victory of good over evil the harmony between nature and living being as well as other human values like friendship and trust. The film is nostalgic especially for children who used to watch the film in the early 2000s, and was widely known as Cartoon Network Ramayan as it was run on Cartoon Network channel.

The original Hindi version film had a notable cast, with Arun Govil as the voice of Ram, Namrata Sawhney voicing Sita, and the legendary Amrish Puri as Raavan. Shatrughan Sinha also played an accrual role in the film’s voicing and worked as the narrator, adding to the grandeur of the film’s storytelling. In the 1990s, the film had actually seen a bit of a hurdle as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) raised concern over the depiction of the Ramayana in an animated format however, the director worked on creating a very respectful and accurate adaptation which led to the present animated version.

Fans are impatiently waiting for the announcement of the new release date of Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama. The film follows the mythological Epic Ramayana, which has been a source of inspiration for the creation of various other films and shows over the years.
