Ahead of Cyclone Dana which is expected to hit Odisha and West Bengal between October 24, 2024, to October 25, light rain has already started pouring in West Bengal from Thursday morning. Authorities are already issuing alerts and taking significant precautions. Both states are preparing for winds of up to 120 km/h, accompanied by very heavy rainfall. Latest reports suggest that the cyclonic storm is moving North-Northwest over the Bay of Bengal with a speed of 12 kmph from the past 6 hours. Let us tell you that Coastal districts in Odisha, such as Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam, are on high alert, while West Bengal has already evacuated more than 114,000 people. Odisha’s evacuation efforts are going on, with officials targeting the safe relocation of about 10 lakh people.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts severe disruptions, including potential flash floods, urban waterlogging, and damages to infrastructure. Followed by which Schools, colleges, and universities have been shut down in several districts in both states, and fishermen have been ordered to stay off the sea. Several Cyclone shelters have been setup, and disaster response teams are on standby to handle emergencies.
