Jammu and Kashmir: 7 Dead and 5 Injured after Terrorists Open Fire on Unarmed Non-locals

A terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir has led to the death of Seven people among which one is a doctor and five are migrant workers. On Sunday evening, terrorists opened fire at a construction site  located in Gagangir in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. As per reports, all the five people who died were workers of a private company and were working on the z-morh tunnel which was under construction and which connects Ganganeer to Sonamarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. They had put up a camp which was attacked by the terrorist. Video of the incident has been going viral on the internet in which two people can be seen heavily injured with blood surrounding them.

The police and army together have cordoned off the area and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined hands with the police for further investigation. Officials have informed that there is a high chance that there were at least two terrorists. The unidentified terrorists were waiting until these staff workers came back to their camp late in the evening followed by which they opened fire on the labourers. Out of the six deceased, two were locals and others were non-locals. As per latest information, the NIA team led by a senior officer has reached the site of attack and investigation is underway.

Talking about the tragic attack, the new chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences and condemned the attack on innocent people who were not even armed to protect themselves. He took on X and said

“Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones.”

“The casualty figure from the Gagangir attack is not final as there are a number of injured labourers, both local & non-local. Praying that the injured make a full recovery as the more seriously injured are being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar.”

Soon after the attack news surfaced on the internet, Union Minister Amit Shah also expressed his anger and to come to X and said that the “The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J-K, is a despicable act of cowardice.” He further added that

“Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he added.
