In a promise made by the Bhanjanlal Sharma-led government of Rajasthan, it was announced that families would be able to purchase gas cylinders for just Rs 450. This offer was set to come into effect from September 1, and since then, people have been exploring how to avail themselves of the benefits. However, many have been confused about the eligibility criteria required to take advantage of this scheme. It’s important to note that this offer is only available to families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), as well as those with BPL (Below Poverty Line) status or Ujjwala connections.

To clarify how the benefits will be implemented, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has issued guidelines. According to these guidelines, eligible families will receive one cylinder per month at the subsidized rate. However, it has been clearly outlined that families must initially pay the full price for the gas cylinder as per the bill. Subsequently, Rs 450 will be deducted from the total amount paid, and the remaining balance will be directly transferred to the consumer’s bank account by the government.

To avail of the benefits, it’s essential to first confirm your eligibility under the scheme introduced by the current government. If eligible, the consumer must complete their KYC (Know Your Customer) process, which also ensures that their bank account is registered with the government. This can be done by visiting the nearest office. Once this process is completed, you will be able to benefit from the scheme.

Ramsingh Kumawat, operator of Shekhawati Gas Agency in Jhunjhunu district, informed us that KYC work is being conducted daily. He also mentioned that even after qualifying for the scheme, families will still need to pay the same amount to the gas delivery person that they previously paid.

During the previous Congress government, the price of an LPG cylinder was Rs 500. The BJP had promised in its manifesto for the 2023 assembly elections to reduce the price by Rs 50. The current Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, stated, “This was an important promise we made in the BJP manifesto. We are fulfilling our promise today.”

According to reports, at least 1 crore 7 lakh 35 thousand families have been listed under the NFSA, and about 37 lakh families are included as BPL or Ujjwala gas connection holders. Additionally, approximately 70 lakh families associated with the BPL and Ujjwala Yojana schemes are currently receiving LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate.
