A lot of drama unfolded after Miss Myanmar, Miss Grand International created a scene on the stage, where India made history after Rachel Gupta who is 20 years old won the 2024 Miss Grand International title. The first runner up was Christine Juliane Opiaza from the Philippines. And the second runner up was the 17 year old Miss Myanmar, Su Nyein, who was upset about not winning the title and started crying on the stage. Followed by which Myanmar National director Htoo Ant Lwin shockingly got her off the stage and held her and removed her crown and the shash that she received. The unexpected turn of the event had everyone in awe and a lot of videos about the incident got viral on the internet.

Most importantly, it can be seen in several videos that Su Nyein was being lifted up in the arms of her team who then took her with them. This grabbed a lot of attention which received a lot of criticism from people worldwide. Htoo Ant Lwin defended his actions, claiming that he was worried about Thae’s well-being, as she seemed unsteady on her feet. However, the audience had a different narrative as Lwin’s reaction appeared to be angry and not protective. People quickly started to bash Su Nyein and asked Miss Grand International officials to cut ties with Lwin, citing “a lack of sportsmanship and business credibility” and many went on to request for imposing a lifetime ban on him. After the incident, Su Nyein reportedly returned her crown which surprised the audience worldwide. She took on Facebook live and announced about the same and said that her decision was made independently not under any influence. She further said

“I’m not controlled by anyone, I just take my own decision. I give back my second runner-up crown just because we don’t get what we deserve: Our National Costume prize, our Country Power of the Year—not the winner crown. I’m not blaming my sisters. I love India, I love the Philippines, they’re my best sisters of all time. I don’t blame them,”

Moreover, she explained to the audience about Htoo Ant Lwin removing her crown and revealed that it happened because she nearly fell down. See highlighted that he was just taking care of her and said to by Philstarlife.com, that

“He just took care of me and another trainer, my national director’s friend, he just grabbed me because I couldn’t walk anymore,”

She further added,

“I cried not because I did not get the winner crown, not because I didn’t feel like I deserved the second runner-up, not because of any of those. because, not only for me but for people my country, they all hoped for this crown and they all fought together.”

Meanwhile, Htoo Ant Lwin also posted on Facebook hinting that Myanmar might pull out from future Miss Grand events. As he shared a cryptic post, which said “Bye forever,” followed by another asking, “Will you re-sign the contract?” along with laughing emojis, leaving fans bewildered and questioning his state of mind.

Indians were not very interested in the drama and were busy focusing on Rachel’s achievement, which stands as a powerful symbol of pride and accomplishment for the nation, even as global attention remains fixated on the unfolding saga.
